Hong's new collection of gold leaf paintings pays tribute to both the artist's personal and professional journeys as well as the notable evolution of the gold leaf medium throughout time.

Blending In Standing Out is arranged according to two distinct timelines: the use of camouflage as a military tactic of evasion and used by Loc Hong as a contemplation of one's layered identity and the emergence of the true self.

This series of work serves as a study of self camouflage as it applies to our personal journeys, finally arriving at a place of realization that the characteristics we try to conceal should be seen. The viewer's reflection in each piece, woven with the camouflage patterns, becomes clearer as they progress through the show as each piece increases in gold karat, vibrancy, and technical complexity.

Hong cleverely pushes the boundaries of traditional gold leaf styles and techniques, boldly debuting an unconventional, signiture era of gold leaf paintings within Hong's work.

Loc Hong's artwork is deeply embedded in Chicago's visual identity, often without locals realizing it. His contributions span from fine art paintings and murals to the delicate application of gold leaf on local business facades, enriching the city's landscape. Beyond his public art, Loc has lent his talents to package designs for some of Chicago's favorite brands. He also plays an integral role in the city's film and television industry, crafting custom props and working as a scenic painter on the sets of numerous popular shows filmed here. A versatile artist, Loc specializes in painting, mold making, and gold leaf techniques. For more than two decades, he has worked from his studio on Western Ave in Ukrainian Village, cultivating a unique understanding of his materials and often using them in unexpected ways in his art.
